Sarah Smith explains why the Medi-Redi storage timer is invaluable for parents

All children get ill and need medicine occasionally and when parents are tired especially when woken up in the middle of the night it can be difficult to manage.

Parents have to remember the last time they gave their child medicine to ensure they have left enough time between doses, of course having the correct medicine and a clean spoon to hand is also helpful. This may sound relatively straightforward, but when parents are exhausted and worried about their sick child this can be quite a challenge.

Sarah Smith, founder of Medi-Redi Ltd. said “my daughter suffered with tonsillitis from three months old. I gave her medicine just before bedtime, hoping she would sleep through and wake up feeling better. In the middle of the night she woke up crying, with a temperature and clearly in pain. I remember picking her up and just staring at the clock trying to calculate whether or not I could give her more medicine. I was so tired I couldn’t think straight and here I was responsible for my baby and scared I might accidentally poison her”.

It is quite normal for young children to have as many as six to eight upper respiratory tract infections and two or three gastrointestinal infections each year. Not to mention Chicken Pox, Scarlet Fever and the usual childhood ailments.

The Medi-Redi storage timer clearly indicates the name of the medicine, the dose and whether it is safe to give more medicine or if medicine should be given as in the case of antibiotics.

Sarah talks about the key features “I wanted to create something to help other parents and make the process of administering medicine simpler and safer. For example if a child wakes up in the middle of the night then all parents have to do is glance at their timer and they will know immediately whether or not it is safe to give another dose of medicine. They can then take the storage timer to their child and everything they need will be stored inside, no more hunting for the medicine or a clean spoon”.

Medi-Redi will enable parents to share the responsibility with their partners, babysitters or grandparents. All they have to do is pre-programme their timer, put the medicines inside and hand it over. It keeps the history too so they can check.
